Abstract

Higher education in communist Romania underwent a series of changes, mostly during the 1980s, when the system went through a strong period of contraction. Liberalization  process after 1989 led to the emergence of the private higher education system, a fact that changed the classical evolution of education.

In this article I will analyze the evolution of private higher education from a legislative point of view, the numerical evolution of both universities and the number of students, as well as how society relates to these changes.
