Abstract

Launched more than 30 years ago, the TEMPUS Programme held an important role in reforming higher education systems in the former communist countries from Central and Eastern Europe. It facilitated cooperation and diminished differences between member states of the European Community and beneficiary states. However, since the graduation of these countries in the Socrates Programme and their letter European integration, the role of TEMPUS Programme seems to be forgotten. The existing literature is limited, and in some cases, outdated. In this framework, this article represents a step to provide an overview of the 10 year implementation of TEMPUS in the mentioned space. This was done by analyzing the charactersitics, results and impact of the programme.
