The article has some didactic proposals concerning the way to analyse whatever subject from the history curriculum. It is about the First World War taught for the secondary level. This subject gives the teacher the possibility to bring forward the chronological moments, as well as the exploration of the complexity of human activities, stressing the relation between causes and effects, between intentions and decisions, between ideals and reality. All these perspectives come to help the history teacher who, by diverse sources and instruments, can problematize the historical events. The objective is to prompt the students to reflect, to understand, to explore, to find the message for today and for tomorrow. Another objective is that the students need to have a better understanding of the concepts, turn them into principles and values, and to be aware of the utility for everyday life of the historical approach.
